Would love to be a part of this. I love GURPS, and even more that I have a strong hankering for a Space/Scifi game.

My initial desires for ship role are:
1. Assault Command (Marines)
2. Engineering
3. Security
4. Medical
5. Diplomacy (With crossing into one of the other desires)

In any case, sounds like fun and I can't wait to get involved. Also, Monday 7 (or Cool to Midnight EST works great.

Welcome aboard, I think the other 2 people that I have confirmed and spoke with had wanted the Assault squads, so we are crammed on that role Razz

however guys Marines are not the only ones that see combat, and light mechs might be available -depending on what ship equipment you guys snag- and engineers or operations might be more likely to operate those due to their technical nature. Thats just one example

I would love to join another game, but currently I am DMing a game on Mondays. Thing is, my players (who begged me to run this for them) are getting kinda flaky, and I don't know how much longer we will be playing.

So Monday (for now) and Wednesday nights are out; anything else is fair game.

So put me down as a maybe, unless the day changes.

Welcome guys, and no, experience is not necessary, we know enough to pull you through, and we will take it slow for a few sessions for those taht are not steeped in gurps already. However you will technically be learning two sets of rules at the same time, space rules are different from the standard gurps rules so just be aware.

I have a medical character from another campaign that never got started. I kind of want to see him played. That campaign had lots of cybernetics and some developing nanotech. I need to know if this is appropriate. As tired of fantasy as I am, this character kind of became typical cleric in heavy armor and with non-lethal weapon, a payload rifle(though I had the potential to do lots of damage with regular ammo).

I'm pretty flexible time-wise and probably will be for awhile.

Welcome! Cybernetics yes, to give a level of reference with rabbit assistance it is possible to bring someone back from the brink, organ failure, broken spine, some of the most grevious injuries, however this has only been done a handful of times as it is costly and highly technical process, usually involving encasing one in a stasis suit that allows them to live a semi normal life although bulky and usually requiring a recharging of its power source. So cybernetics is within the realm of possibility.

Nanotechnology... the theory is there and maybe dabbled in, I would have to see your specific ideas.

Mind you all with tech, almost all advances in the last 20 years have come from a need to fuel the war effort. Think like world war 2, many advances were made, and later applications were found for war time inventions for civilian, social, or medical uses.

so pencil you in for the Medical officer?

I gave him IQ 15 so the characters is a bit of a Brains! character. I'll be a good surgeon/medic, a competent cybernetic surgeon, and be able to do all sorts of IQ skills that are somewhat related and/or useful, e.g. perhaps programming (for the cybernetics). Amusingly, at this point it would have been a little cheaper to just buy up the skills on his sheet as they are now (though not ultimately, most likely).

What's combat going to be like in this game? Is it going to be primary or occasional or is this more of an expedition campaign? My character is easy to refocus for other technologies, the "black tech" for the campaign he was in was nanotech. It seems that cybernetics is somewhat clunky if we're talking stasis and all. I'll probably keep some of the focus on cybernetics but drop the nano-tech and pick up robotics if that's okay and appropriate. My character would much better at programming targeting systems than actually doing it himself. I'll probably pick up a few levels of Biology and Sociology or whatever.

Is combat going to be mostly starship-starship (with or without fighters), mech, or heavy (spacesuit) infantry, or some mix?

Mankind is at war if you read some of the primer/campaign info your main purpose is to serve as a combat vessel. Combat will be a mix, depending on the groups strong suits and tactics. ship to ship combat ground base tactical fights, fighting on a ships interior, ect are all possible. Medical needs do extend past injury. You may need to take on some science roles to deal with unknown biological entities, plauges, and toxins to name a few things that could happen.

It seems you are looking at some engineer skills too, thats fine, I have no issue with that and worse comes to worse you could fulfill some engineering roles.

Ok game is tomorrow, please send character sheets to sabanknight@yahoo.com if you have not done so yet. Also have your equipment and your requisition information, send it to jcdf(Tanasha Mar) who is your ships quartermaster so you can yet your ships big ticket items and ship weapons 'n such. Check out character creation sticky for some campaign specific choices as well as most TL appropriate gear in Hightech and Ultratech

Hey, I have two people looking at the game, and making characters. If you guys can find a niche to fill your welcome to play, one of our guys who is the tactical officer wants to lean toward commanding the fighters in the hangar and let his subordinates run the actual guns, so that is a spot that potentially could be filled, we have a science officer who leans toward techie and inventing, so a more investigative/scientific one could be an option.

These are just sugestions

We have a fair number of players but since we have two gms we could hold a couple more, but Id have to cut it off after you two, let me know what you guys want to do.

If your still interested send me an email at sabanknight at yahoo . com with your character concept, read character creation post for some ideas of what to send me. keep in mind what niche in the ship crew you want to fill, maybe some hybrid role? possibly consider filling multiple roles, if another character needs to take care of something you are flexible to jump in multiple areas. Another option is to consider do you want to be involved in ship to ship combat and operations or want to be on away teams more often?

Ah yes, we're planning on e-mailing you with our rough draft character concepts as you stated before, as soon as we're done. My friend is intent on being an assistant-type character, which I assume is some sort of flexible role that will jump in multiple areas. As for me, I am creating an engineer-type of character. We're both willing to tweak our characters if necessary.
